The Beauty Of Doilies

Currently I have a thing for florals and doilies. If you don't know what doilies are, they're ornamental mats that range in shapes and size. You'd more than likely seen them around your mom or grandma's house. Thus they give off a vintage yet elegant look. Think out of the box when envisioning these doilies. Don't think about the doilies your mom or grandma had around their house. Put a modern spin on them. This gives you the opportunity to create many different uses from them. These can range from home decor to fashion accessories.

Putting a modern artistic spin on the doily comes easily with house decorations. They're tasteful and subdued enough to fill a room but not overwhelm it. The key to this is to use them in moderation. You can do this by lining a vase with delicate doilies or for a more dramatic look, you can replace a lampshade with bolder doilies. This can tie together different rooms for a unified house.

Another modern twist on the doily is to use them in fashion. You can easily jazz up any accessory with these doilies to give them a more unique and textured look. Bracelets are a good example since they are usually flat in texture. Using doilies on these can enhance their look dramatically. If you're feeling really daring try making a scarf out of doilies as seen below. Their ornamental look is actually quite polished and stylish when paired with a neutral colored outfit.

The moral today is that anything can look good as long as it's in good taste and used in moderation. Pair this with neutral colors to keep it simple and elegant. Doilies add just a touch of texture to flatter surfaces. Don't be fooled by their initial look. Rethink the doily and the many uses that may come from them. You'll never know the possibilities they will bring!
